Here at Papa Johns our love for pizza goes beyond the kitchen – it extends to celebrating extraordinary achievements across the pizza world.
From the largest to the longest, the smallest to the most expensive, join us on a journey through the most awe-inspiring pizza world records. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself reaching for your phone at the end, ready to place your order and take a shot at beating the world pizza eating record.
Warning: Having expensive taste in pizzas comes at a cost. The world’s most expensive pizza was created by New York-based restaurant, Industry Kitchen, and now they hold the Guiness World Record for the most expensive commercially available pizza.
Their culinary masterpiece pizza features only the most luxurious, extravagant ingredients: Truffle made from black squid ink dough, white Stilton cheese, foie gras, and caviar, all topped off with 24 karat gold leaves.
As for cost? The world’s most expensive pizza will set you back a cool £2,106.53. Better get saving.
When hunger strikes and you tap order on your Papa Johns app, it’s a given your pizza will vanish quite quickly after arrival. But could you eat a whole pizza in 23.62 seconds – and with a knife and fork?
That’s exactly what Kelvin Medina from the Philippines did to become the Guiness World Record holder for the fastest time to eat a 12” pizza with a knife and fork. Winning in a head-to-head competition back in 2015, his astonishingly quick world record for pizza eating is yet to be beaten.
Wondering how big the world’s largest pizza is? Imagine a pizza so colossal it defies logic – a Guinness World Record-breaking masterpiece which stretches to 13,990 square feet!
This current Guiness World record for the biggest pizza was achieved by American YouTube star Airrack at the Los Angeles Convention Center in January 2023. As for what they did with the world’s largest pizza once it was made? It was actually donated to several charities around LA.
When it comes to pizza, size does matter – but it’s also about creativity. And while there isn’t an official Guiness World Record for the smallest pizza, there is a world of miniature cooking where very tiny pizzas feature.
Introducing the Tiny Kitchen YouTube channel, renowned for creating scaled-down versions of popular dishes. Among their creations is the Tiny Pizza, topped with cheese, pepperoni and basil – surely a contender for the world’s smallest pizza.
What’s a party without pizza? In January 2023, a group of 3,357 partygoers came together to create history for the world's largest pizza party, as officiated by Guiness World Records.
Each partygoer had to eat at least two slices of pizza to take part in the epic event in Oklahoma, which easily surpassed the previous world record of just 1,046 people.
So, we’ve covered the biggest and smallest pizzas ever made – but what about the world’s longest pizza?
In June 2017, over 100 people came together to create the world’s longest pizza, stretching in at 6,333 feet and 3.6 inches. It took 54 hours to make, including 40 hours of prep time, and 14 hours of baking.
Lastly, pizza-making isn’t just about taste – it's also about showmanship. To celebrate the launch of our 300th UK store back in June 2015, Papa Johns clinched the world record for the most people tossing pizza dough with 338 participants.
However, a few months later our pizza-tossing record was beaten by Pudong Shangri-La in Shanghai with an impressive 511 participants. We need to up our pizza-tossing game next time!
We might be biased, but we reckon Papa Johns serves the world’s tastiest pizzas. Don’t just take our word for it, try it for yourself. Check out our latest deals and offers and find your nearest Papa Johns.
